Art and culture are very important in Ortisei: this is where countless wood carving artists live who have given fame to this place and valley worldwide. At the end of August/beginning of September each year, Val Gardena hosts Unika, the artistic wood sculptures tradeshow in Ortisei/Roncadizza tennis center. The event includes local craftspeople such as sculptors, sculpture painters, gilders and crafters of ornamental wooden art displaying and demonstrating their artistic talent over three consecutive days.
A further typical feature of the Gardena Valley is the Val Gardena wedding costume, one of the most beautiful throughout the whole alpine area. Said costume can be admired on particular occasions such as processions, important religious events, folk festivals and feast days. The parade “Val Gardena in costume” that takes place every year on the first Sunday in August is a very interesting and well worth seeing event.
On rainy days you can visit the Museum Val Gardena in Ortisei for plenty of information on the Gardena Valley, its culture and nature.
